What is PEMDAS / BODMAS?

PEMDAS (or BODMAS in some regions) is a mnemonic acronym used to remember the order of operations for solving math expressions. It ensures that everyone calculates the same expression and gets the same, correct answer.

To solve an expression correctly, you must perform the operations in the following sequence:

  1. Parentheses (or Brackets) - Simplify everything inside the parentheses first.
  2. Exponents (or Orders/Of) - Calculate any powers or square roots.
  3. Multiplication and Division - Perform these as a pair, moving from left to right.
  4. Addition and Subtraction - Perform these as a pair, moving from left to right.

A common point of confusion is the M/D and A/S steps. You don't always do multiplication before division; you do them as a group, from left to right. For example, in 10 ÷ 2 × 5, you would do the division first because it appears first when reading the expression.

This game is designed to help you practice this critical sequence until it becomes second nature.
